Choosing to cook your own meals on your next RV trip will save you money and often result in healthier, more delicious meals. However, given the challenging conditions of cooking in an RV, there are certain factors to keep in mind regarding things like storage and workspace, appliances, and ventilation.

Here are a few key tips for cooking in your RV!

Cook Less

This may not sound ideal at first, but the best RV food preparation strategy is to not cook. Starting up the oven or stove can create a lot of uncomfortable heat and moisture, so try to make cold meals like salads and sandwiches as much as possible. You can still make some pretty delicious courses without unnecessarily heating up your fifth wheel, toy hauler, or travel trailer!

Prepare Large Meals

Sometimes cooking can’t be avoided, but that’s okay. Just prepare to tough out the extra heat! When you need to cook, we recommend preparing large meals that will last a couple of days. This way, you won’t have to cook again for a little while, or maybe even the entire duration of your vacation.

Cooking in your RV is a little more complicated than most people think, but if you rely on smarter methods, you will save yourself a lot of discomfort on your next trip!

Keep Things Clean

If you don’t have a lot of counter space to work with, it’s important to make the most of what you have. By cleaning frequently throughout your cooking process, your counter space won’t be littered with dirty dishes, food waste, or other clutter.

The secondary benefit is that when dinner is done, you will have much less cleanup to worry about.
